"Anyone who can email can now blog"
Kenneth Pinto of deadpoetscave.com emailed me this afternoon to say:
"Anyone who can email can now blog":
Just send a email to post@posterous.com from your regular email address.
You'll get a reply which tells you that you've posted successfully.
The first time you get this reply, you'll be asked to click a link to create a password. This is the account creation bit.
After that, each time you email/post on posterous, you'll get a confirmation email saying that you've successfully posted (prevent spoofing).
Ok, you can also email blog posts via Blogger. But that still requires account creation to begin with. Also, Blogger can't do this... *drum roll* with Posterous, you can email word docs, pdfs, photos, links, and it will automatically try to present it in the nicest way it knows. E.g.
Post photo -> resized to fit blog
Post bunch of photos -> mini gallery created in the post
Post a doc/spreadsheet -> embedded viewable document (actually by using Scribd's iPaper - don't worry; an invisible process - you just email the attachment)
Post a YouTube URL -> automatically embed the video
Post an mp3 file -> playable via an embedded mp3 player
Check out the FAQ, which shows some of these features in action:
http://posterous.com/faq Apparently, comments are also handled entirely through email. Some glitches but it's pretty new; so no bells-and-whistles yet. Right now, it's dirt simple.
