Reading a Secrets mannual

One reason I think why I still out-google my students is because I'm faster. I have several tabs open and loading in the background, while they are still fondling their mice towards the first URL window. I do get impatient so will integrate tips into their writing guidelines in first and second year. Even simple things like alt-tabs to switch between windows in a PC is news to many.

My relatively efficient use of the Mac is built on a legacy of having read a Mac Secrets manual in the 90's. You just have to read one once, and practise. It's surprising how useful what you learn will be. And its transferable, so you'll be better on a pc too. For something we use many hours, everyday, it's worth it. Over the years, I've read a few manuals about the Apple OS. These below were from a decade ago (1999, 2002) and are to be pulped. I'm a stranger to the existing OS' and it's time for a read. I'll probably get reacquainted with Mountain Lion.

"Love of my life" (Queen)

Queen was an extraordinary band and this commentary talks about their dazzling performance for Live Aid on 13 Jul 1985, often termed their finest moment when audiences sang and clapped with them and al the other star performers realised Queen had stolen the show!
"Queen, their finest moment at Live Aid," by Peter Stanford. The Telegraph, 24 Sep 2011. Queen stole the show in front of a worldwide audience of two billion at Live Aid. Link

They would go on to perform the momentus "Live at Wembley" concert in 1986. The videos are on YouTube and DVD and here they are closing against Brian May's guitar rendition of "God Save The Queen" which the British audience sings to.

Brian May, an astrophysicist and animal rights campaigner, later plays "God Save The Queen" from the roof of Buckingham Palace for QE2's golden jubilee in 2002:

But it wasn't all electric guitar, here Brian coaxes beautiful tones with the mercurial Freddy at Queen's Wembley concert, playing "Love of My Life" as they always did together at concerts.

Freddie Mercury died in 1991. The loss was felt worldwide and back here in Singapore, at the Department of Zoology in NUS, grad student Christine Tan and myself turned up in black to mourn our loss.

Brian May, who has said Freddie is in his thoughts every day, would dedicate "Love of My Life" to his now deceased lead singer in concerts around the world. In this instance, he dedicates the song to Freddie's mum, present that night. May and the audience sing the song together, as they used to with Freddie:
